Widgery

5090 is no longer with us

If you were looking for cottages like Widgery, how about trying these:

Named after the Dartmoor landmark Widgery Tor, this charming retreat is tucked away on the first floor of a beautifully restored barn that retains plenty of its period character. Sat on a fantastic site with Little Links Yurt (5093) and Great Links Yurt (5094), there are plenty of facilities to enjoy and, with Dartmoor right on your doorstep, there aren't many places better suited for an adventure in Devon.

Venture up the flight of steps on the side of Widgery and discover a wonderfully spacious open plan living space as you enter the barn. Charming wooden pews and exposed beams complement the bare stone walls to create a rustic, homely atmosphere that is kept light and airy by the Velux windows mounted on the ceiling as well as the delightful windows that belong to the old barn itself that have been wonderfully restored to provide a charming spot to gaze over the surrounding Dartmoor landscapes. Tucked into the corner of the room next to one of the barns many toasty radiators sit a couple of inviting armchairs which are perfect for relaxing with your favourite book on a rainy day. The simplistic kitchen has a stripped-back charm to it with a single ring induction hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge all tucked into a little corner that offers a cosy place to prepare warming meals after a day of adventures.

At the far end of the barn, you'll find the bedroom, which houses a gorgeous double bed with beautifully carved wooden head and footboards. Natural light floods in through another of the barn's old windows that is fitted with wooden shutters which means you can open them up enjoy the fresh Devonshire air in the morning. There's an indulgent free-standing bath which offers the ideal place to relax after a day out on the moors, and behind a glass divider you will also find a charming wash-basin and small WC.

Outside of the barn there are plenty of extra facilities for you to utilise. Tucked away in a separate barn you'll find the shared shower-room for the three properties which houses a shower, toilet and sink - where you can wash your dishes - along with a shared utility-room with a fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble-drier. You'll also be able to use a communal games-room which is located on the ground floor of the barn and comes equipped with plenty of board games, books and a table-tennis table. Finally, a gorgeous barrel sauna sits a small walk away with views over the Dartmoor Tors and beyond. To use, just ask the friendly owners to book a slot and then let all your worries melt away once you're inside.

For those wanting to soak up the Devon sunshine, there are plenty of beautiful outside spaces for you to enjoy. Widgery comes with a delightful private garden that is perfect for al fresco dining with a small table and chairs and bucket barbecue available to use. There is even a herb garden which the owners encourage you to use should you want to spice up your cooking.

Babies up to 12 months old are welcomed at Widgery.
