This wonderfully spacious family-sized cottage in rural east Devon ticks the happy holiday wish list. Set at the heart of a family-run farm in the unspoilt countryside of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and just half an hour's drive from the stunning Jurassic Coast, the location is excellent.
The cottage is full of character – it is half of an historic farmhouse dating back to the 16th Century – and has been transformed by its creative architect owners, into an amazing, individual and truly welcoming independent holiday property.
Whitehall Farm Cottage has a tranquil Scandinavian feel, there is a large fully enclosed lawned garden wrapped around two sides, a kitchen/breakfast-room, a separate dining-room with French windows to the patio and garden, a sitting-room with ancient beams and a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove. Upstairs there is a choice of three bedrooms – one bedroom has a super-king bed, one has a double bed and there is also a twin bedroom. The family bathroom on the first floor which has a bath and a separate shower, and the utility-room with a shower on the ground floor, add to the flexibility that Whitehall Farm Cottage offers to its guests.
You will be able to explore 125 acres of farmland - which includes an Iron Age Hill Fort, Dumpdon Hill - looked after by the Devon Wildlife Trust. The farm is also signed up with the Natural England Stewardship Scheme which further encourages wildlife and natural habitats, so this really is a very special place to stay.
Whitehall Farm, on the edge of the village of Luppitt, is home to cattle, rare breed sheep and of course a family of farmyard chickens. You will have all the peace and privacy you would like but the owners, who live next door, are more than happy to tell their visitors about the farm and the animals, and to show them where they can explore.
