DoubleOyster Cottage provides unexpectedly spacious and peaceful accommodation, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Mevagissey's historic centre but just a three minute level walk from the harbourside. The end cottage of a modern terrace of five, there is a large, enclosed garden and private parking for a medium-sized car, an unexpected bonus in such a small village although beware of the narrow entrance.
This is a delightfully scenic village with narrow lanes of colourful terraced cottages crowding the hillsides around the sheltered harbour below. Fishermen still mend their nets on the harbourside and offer boat trips to visitors, and there are craft shops, tea-rooms and old smugglers' pubs to explore on dry land. Having negotiated the narrow winding streets, Oyster Cottage is a lovely holiday destination.
Accessed down a short flight of steps, Oyster Cottage is light and airy, with a large fully-equipped kitchen/breakfast-room and south-facing sitting/dining-room. The sitting-area has big comfortable sofas and French doors out to the garden, where two paved patio areas catch the sun all day long - perfect for outdoor breakfasts or evening meals when the weather is kind. The bedrooms are all beautifully presented, with the main bedroom having its own en suite shower-room; the second double bedroom and the twin room share the family bathroom.
This is an ideal cottage for family holidays with a small beach in the harbour at low tide and a 'secret' beach at Polstreath which is just outside the village, an adventurous walk down 200 steps - perfect for walking off those pasties and cream teas! Nearby Pentewan has half a mile of sandy beach and Heligan Gardens are close by, while the Eden Project and historic Charlestown, with its square-rigged tall ships moored in the harbour, are just a short drive away.
