DoubleThis beautifully presented shepherd's hut is as much a part of the landscape here as the ancient oak which gives it its name. The two stand side-by-side at the top of a gently sloping meadow with private access and panoramic views towards the east Devon coast.
Complete with your very own wood-fired hot tub, a wide curved deck stands proudly to the front of Shepherd's Oak like the helm of a ship to make the most of the south-facing aspect, and to celebrate the setting sun and yet more unspoilt rural views, a second deck faces to the west. It is hard to believe that you are just a few miles from the Cathedral City of Exeter with its Roman walls, historic maritime quayside and thriving arts and cafe culture.
Back on site there is an enclosed part of the meadow to the front of the hut which you can call your own and where your four-legged friends can happily play. Adjoining it, where the land leads down to the woodland at the bottom of the valley, is a further field to wander through when you set off to explore, where you can meet the resident family of Alpacas and their summer babies (please keep your dog(s) under control around these lovely creatures and any other livestock you may encounter), you will even have the opportunity to feed them as the owner will leave you a little bag of Alpaca nuts! You can sit and watch over this inquisitive flock in true shepherd's style. What a unique experience.
To add to the atmosphere of this special setting there is a barbecue and chiminea so that you can warm your toes of an evening, grill a simple healthy supper and of course enjoy a glass or two of wine. Or why not take a long soak in the bubbling hot tub, gazing at the stars.
Needless to say the facilities inside Shepherd's Oak offer all that you will need for your glamping experience. There is a wood-burning stove, full mains electricity so that you can have hot showers on demand in the surprisingly spacious shower-room, an electric hob, a fridge, toaster and even a flat screen TV for lazy mornings in bed if you are not up with the lark. There is a really comfortable double bed with plenty of clever storage beneath it and on the shelves above it.
Shepherd's Oak is not overlooked at all so you can have the stable-door wide open to take in the panoramic view, the sounds of birdsong and the stirrings of the farms across the valley – all that wonderful fresh air will help you to truly switch off from the pressures of daily life. Even those sometimes unpredictable rainy days are catered for with a shared games-room in one of the barns of this friendly farmstead. For the energetic, mountain bikes can be provided – and there is even a field shelter next to the hut which you can use for your own bikes if you bring them.
Shepherd's Delight is also to be found at Pynes Farm though tucked away out of sight a few fields away. Book both together and enjoy a glamping holiday with friends.
