Medleys Barn in High Hurstwood is an ideal base for exploring Ashdown Forest or for visits to Glyndebourne. Once a cart barn on a well-established fruit farm, this charming barn conversion has many beams and lovely floor to ceiling windows creating a light and homely vibe.

Relax on one of the comfy sofas in the sitting-room, perhaps play Bridge or prepare a meal in the fully equipped kitchen/dining-room which has a large rustic table which has views of the terrace and tennis court.

On the ground floor is a modern shower-room which also houses a washing machine/drier. On the first floor is a Victorian-style bathroom and two bedrooms; one with a large raised king-size double bed and the second has twin beds which when pushed together can form a super-king double bed (please advise at the time of booking).

Outside is a paved terrace area with garden table and seating for four. Steps lead to a well-kept tennis court which is available for tennis enthusiasts by prior arrangement with the owner next door. Enjoy the gardens and surrounding woodlands which lead to some great walks. There is a small pond which is not fenced so please take care with small children.

There is a table for those that enjoy Bridge. The owner has a pottery studio and can offer pottery and ceramic lessons. Please book in advance.

Just across the courtyard from Medleys Barn is The Tea Hut (4477), open plan accommodation for two with an open plan kitchen, dining and sitting area with a king-size bed.

Located in East Sussex on the edge of Ashdown Forest, the historic village of High Hurstwood comes within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Situated in the village is a church and a popular restaurant/pub. The neighbouring village of Buxted, just over two miles away, has two pubs, a shop and a direct train service to London. There are plenty of outdoor pursuits available in the area including clay pigeon shooting, golf and horse riding. You can also visit one of the many vineyards and sample some great English and Sussex wines. If you enjoy walking, with or without a dog, you are surrounded by beautiful countryside.

A short drive will take you to the county town of Lewes, famous for its annual bonfire celebrations and working brewery. It is also home to Lewes Castle and the Anne of Cleves Tudor House. Wander the medieval streets and visit the many bookshops, antiques shops, galleries, boutiques and craft workshops.

Sussex has numerous National Trust properties, historic houses and gardens to visit. It is also home to the annual Glyndebourne Opera Festival.

Enjoy a day out on the Bluebell Railway; a steam train which makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park and East Grinstead, stopping at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote. This is a lovely way to take in the Sussex countryside.

Looking for some retail therapy? Then visit the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells or the coastal towns of Brighton and Eastbourne which have some great shops, bars and restaurants.
