Bishop Palace Gardens and Wells

These are just the most beautiful gardens to wander around, even if you are not an avid garden enthusiast! The bubbling springs feeding the wells and river, the tranquility, the ramparts and the setting adjacent to the Bishops Palace, plus the imaginative planting make it a great place to visit any time of the year - November for us. Right in the centre of Wells too, so lots to explore.

A great place to visit

A beautiful garden to walk around with great views of the cathedral.
Wells is a lovely small city to spend the day in.

Make sure you go to the cathedral and Vicars Close as well.

Why not take a walk up this iconic, legendary Tor? Well worth the effort, you will have spectacular views across 3 counties. Dogs must be on a lead and there are no public conveniences.

Breathtaking (!)

It's well worth the initially steep climb up the tor for the amazing panoramic views from the summit - we parked in Glastonbury itself, walked up through the town and past the Chalice Well to tackle the steepest slope first, which meant an easier walk down the 'back' of the tor and a stroll through countryside to get back to the top of the town. Plenty of tea shops and cafes to refuel at when you get back!

The Old Inn, Hutton

Excellent food (especially from Specials board - changes daily), friendly staff. Busy in early evening, so after first night, we booked a table for the following evening(s).

Great Service

This is a very popular pub come restaurant and you are advised to book a table in advance. Food was excellent, well cooked and served with a smile. Great range of beers, ales and wines. Recommended.

A traditional pub with three individual bars offering real ales and homemade pub grub. Situated on the Butcome trail, it's the perfect place for hikers and dogs are welcome with well behaved owners.

Fab Sunday Roast

Went for Sunday lunch last October when we were staying in the Shepherds Hut. Loved it so much we have booked a local hotel for the Sunday as this time we are Monday-Thursday so would miss the Roast otherwise.

A beautifully restored 17th century pub, open all day for drinks, snacks and dinner. A woodburner warms the bar during the winter months and you can eat alfresco on the terrace in the summer.
