Flax Barn is located in the beautiful south Somerset village of Barrington, not far from the Dorset border. Barrington Court and its gardens, estate, tea shop and artisan crafts workshops are within strolling distance of the cottage. The gorgeous Somerset countryside is all around but it is also a very easy drive to the breathtaking Jurassic Coast.

This lovely stone barn conversion is one of just four properties that have been created from an historic set of barns at the heart of the village. Flax Barn has the great advantage that it can be booked for two or four guests throughout the year. Hayloft (2403) is in the same development.

Accessed via a shared gravelled courtyard, the reverse level accommodation gives a lovely view from the kitchen window over the fields and the cosy sitting-area with wood-burning stove looks out over gardens. As well as all the character that comes with a barn conversion, with its beams and exposed stonework, there is a new kitchen and bathroom. There are two ground floor bedrooms, one with a double and the other with twin beds.

With its picturesque thatched cottages and historic church, Barrington epitomises the country village idyll. There is a very friendly local pub, The Barrington Boar, which serves excellent food.

Flax Barn has dedicated off-road parking and then a gravelled pathway to the front door. The tranquil little garden is to one side of the path and has a summer-house and garden chairs, the ideal spot for sipping a cooling drink on a sunny day.

One of the great things here is that there is such easy access from the A303 and M5 from Taunton and yet the village is one of Somerset's most peaceful and traditional settings. Other National Trust properties in this area are the grand Elizabethan Montacute House, Tintinhull for a stunning garden and Lytes Carey, a medieval house with an arts and crafts inspired garden. Garden lovers will also adore the internationally famous East Lambrook Cottage Gardens, just a few miles away.

If you wanted to share a holiday with extended family or friends, Hayloft (2403) is in the same setting and there is space for you all to eat together in either cottage.
