Tydemans Cottage is at the heart of the pretty north Devon fishing village of Appledore, close to some of north Devon's most fabulous sandy beaches. This beautifully renovated cottage is full of character. Originally two cottages, this welcoming family-sized property has wonderful furnishings, a really private and sunny courtyard and steps to an enclosed 'hidden' garden. As this is a period cottage it has some internal steps and low lintels, but the feeling throughout is of light, space and style.

This little coastal village is a delight with its quay, passenger ferry across to Instow, fabulous deli and choice of cafes. Access along the little pedestrian lanes – with a nearby drop-off point – is all part of the charm.

You can even bring your own boat and use the public slipway. The estuary of the River Torridge here is a favourite with sailors. You can go surfing at Westward Ho!, Saunton Sands, Croyde or Woolacombe where there are miles of sandy beaches – or you can simply sit on the quay overlooking the estuary and watch the flocks of migratory birds and the multi-coloured sailing boats as they come and go.

Before you go, you must browse through the galleries and antiques shops for a treat to take home. There is also an annual book festival so, if you time your stay right, you can enjoy some literary culture too.
