River Meadow Farm is an extraordinary getaway with a unique period charm that is wonderfully complemented by some gorgeous modern luxuries and fabulous surroundings. Set in a beautiful courtyard on a working farm and surrounded by 220 acres of private land, this really is the perfect Dartmoor retreat.
A wonderful entrance hall greets you with gorgeous exposed beams, rich wooden furnishings and stone flag flooring that really sets the tone for the rest of the house. If you have little ones this room can also be converted into a delightful playroom. The charming sitting-room sits down the hall, full of characterful furniture and vibrant colours that beautifully complement the thick walls of the old farmhouse to create a wonderfully snug atmosphere. A gorgeously weathered, stone fireplace sits to one side of the room, keeping you nice and cosy in the winter months with its indulgent open fire. Instead of a TV the sitting-room comes complete with a fabulous HD projector, but you will have to bring along a laptop and HDMI cables if you fancy movie nights in the evenings.
Along the hall, you'll find the absolutely stunning kitchen/diner, with its rustic floorboards, gorgeous wooden worktops and fabulous patio doors. Beautifully crafted chairs surround a magnificent dining-table, perfect for sociable family meals in the evenings. You'll find everything you'll need to cook up delicious meals in the delightful kitchen with a two-door Aga, electric oven, induction hob, fridge/freezer and a dishwasher all integrated into the beautiful wooden cabinets. There is also a second dining-room should you need the extra space.
Also on the ground floor, you'll find an informal yet well-equipped gym with superb modern equipment such as a water rower, exercise bike, mini rebounder and weights dotted around on the tilled flooring. You will also find the fantastic Steinway model B piano in the room; perfect for providing entertainment to cosy nights in. However, the owners do ask that when the piano is not being used that it is covered. A handy utility-room and family shower-room make up the ground floor.
Upstairs you will discover five gorgeous bedrooms that will comfortably sleep ten people. If you do have a larger party, the owners are able to provide extra beds, should you need them. The main bedroom, accessible from the gym downstairs, is stunning and comes complete with an emperor size bed, wood-burning stove and plenty of storage space. It also has a beautifully finished en suite bathroom with an indulgent free-standing bath and gorgeous dual sinks. Next door, bedroom four has a wonderfully playful design that is perfect for little ones. Along the hall, bedroom three provides an incredibly cosy place to snuggle up in the evenings while bedroom two is an absolute delight, with an inviting double bed and a raised single. Finally, the last bedroom houses a luxurious super-king size bed and boasts great views over the moors. An excellent family bathroom makes up the first floor, with a wonderful free-standing bath perfect for those relaxing nights in.
If you thought that River Meadow Farm's interiors were nice then its outside space is truly special. There are nearly 220 acres for you to explore with all sorts of hideaways to discover. The fabulous patio and outdoor seating area are perfect for a spot of al fresco dining in the evening. Wild flowers surround a gorgeous lawn on which you will find two brilliant sun loungers that are great for soaking up the Devonshire sunshine. A small fire-pit and cosy benches make for a perfect spot to enjoy the stars in the evening with a glass of something special. If that wasn't enough, a beautiful wood-fired hot tub sits at the end of the garden and overlooks the spectacular views across the valley. Elsewhere on the grounds, you'll find adorable wooden swings, beautiful tranquil meadows and even a tennis court. Due to the cottage being located on the farm there are also a wonderful array of farm animals that the owners are happy to let you feed should you wish. A short walk away from the farm you'll find a peaceful mile-long stretch of river that is ideal for wild swimming. Furthermore, on the banks of the river sits a fabulous wood-fired sauna that provides a truly idyllic place to relax after you've enjoyed an invigorating dip.
