Perched above picturesque Mevagissey harbour, this simply stunning former master mariner's house is the perfect holiday home for both families and groups of friends. Beautifully restored and offering panoramic sea views, Harbour Masters House gives a nod to its elegant late Victorian past with the added benefit of luxurious furnishings and stylish decor. The home of the harbour master in a Cornish town or village would historically command the very best view of the harbour and surrounding coastline and this is certainly the case here.

From the moment you step across the threshold of this double fronted, three-storey majestic town house you will be wowed. Steps lead up from the road below to the front door which in turn opens into a large entrance hall with high ceilings and original restored wood floor. Turn left and you will discover the fabulous open plan dining-room and kitchen, perfect for sociable times around the table to plan the day ahead. That is of course if you can tear yourself away from the fabulous views from the picture window with perfectly placed window seat where you can sit and watch the fishing boats come and go from the harbour. The well-equipped kitchen with Nespreso machine and Miele appliances has all you could wish for to cook up a family feast and the added bonus of a separate utility-room with handy washing machine and drier. There is also a shower and WC, ideal after a day on the beach, along with a second WC on the ground floor. French doors from the kitchen lead out onto a secluded private patio where you can relax in peace and quiet surrounded by colourful plants and Mediterranean potted palms.

Across the hall the sitting-room awaits. Furnished in soft pastel shades and comfy sofas, the focus of the room is the beautifully restored fire surround (ornamental and not for use), however it's hard to draw your eyes away from the stunning harbour view from the sash windows with window seat, the ideal place to sit with a morning coffee or evening aperitif to watch the sailing world go by. The sweeping staircase with ornate carved bannister leads to the three first floor bedrooms and fabulous family bathroom where you can sink into the roll-top bath and gaze out over the ocean. The stylishly furnished main bedroom with luxury bedding offers stunning views from the sash window, the spacious second bedroom with its four-poster bed is also beautifully furnished and enjoys the same panoramic view over towards the harbour and beyond. The third bedroom to the rear of the property is a spacious double which overlooks the courtyard with lush vegetation, the perfect place to relax after a day of adventure.

A flight of stairs to the second floor leads to the fourth bedroom. This charming double room is flooded with light from the double Velux windows and also has a handy desk if you can tear yourself away from the view. The fifth bedroom is a single, with plenty of space and benefitting from the light from the double Velux windows. In between bedrooms four and five there is a conveniently placed bathroom with walk-in shower.

There is plenty to do without moving the car, Harbour Masters House is just a short stroll away from the centre of Mevagissey with its assorted eclectic shops, cafes and characterful pubs and restaurants. If you want to venture further afield the south coast of Cornwall offers beautiful beaches and pretty villages so you will never be short of places to explore. Walk the scenic coast path or catch the ferry (weather permitting) and head across the bay to explore the yachting town of Fowey, you might even be accompanied by dolphins on the way! For the fishermen amongst you why not head out to sea on one of the local boats and bring home your catch for supper. If you fancy a day on the beach then head to Caerhays, Portmellon or Pentewan - all are a short drive away where you can hire a kayak, explore the rockpools or just laze on the beach and enjoy lunch at one of the beachside cafes. Both The Lost Gardens of Heligan and Caerhays Castle are close by and should be on your "things to do" list. However you spend your days, returning to Harbour Masters House will be a delight and a place you will want to return to again and again.
