Set above the beach in the attractive fishing village of Porthleven, Retanna has magnificent views out to sea – in one direction is the broad sweep of Mount’s Bay, and in the other the cliffs can be seen for miles. Access to the beach is literally a few minutes’ walk away; for walkers the coastal footpath is nearby, providing stunning views along the clifftop to Loe Bar and onwards to the Lizard peninsula. A short walk along the beach road and quayside leads into the village, with its historic harbour, shops, pubs and restaurants. One of Retanna’s many attractions is its enclosed garden across the road perched above the long golden stretch of Porthleven Sands (see photograph), ideal for picnics or barbecues with its fantastic sea views, or for indulging in a glass of wine whilst watching a magnificent sunset. A small conservatory, adjoining an old net store, is perfect for enjoying the scenery whatever the weather. The garden is protected from the cliff by a stone wall, but please take care with children as on the other side there is a steep tiered drop down to the beach. Inside the house there are sea views from every room, all of which are spacious – especially the very well-equipped kitchen/dining-room and the sitting-room, with its beamed ceiling and ornamental stone fireplace. There is also a large, enclosed private back yard where children can play and everyone can enjoy breakfast al fresco in the morning sun.
