If you want a cottage, quietly situated in Boscastle, but within two hundred yards of local pubs, restaurants and shops, then The Shippen is ideal. From the patio and terraced garden situated twenty feet up and well back from the harbour road, panoramic views can be enjoyed; of the harbour to the left (see photograph), sweeping across the Vallency ravine to the village and Vallency Valley, with its Thomas Hardy connections, to the right. This offers a splendid spot to enjoy breakfast and watch the world go by below. This mid-terraced cottage is reached up steep steps and through the all-weather storm porch, which keeps the worst of the winter storms at bay. The open plan living-room has a beamed ceiling and open-tread stairs lead up to the bedrooms above, each with sloping ceilings and low beams. Several beaches are within driving distance, and there are wonderful clifftop walks from the cottage. Due to the elevated position and steps, this property is not suited to less mobile guests or young children.
