Set in over 40 acres of the most beautiful rolling countryside in the heart of Dartmoor National Park, Lower Willsworthy Cottage has something for everyone. It is not surprising that this beautifully converted stone building, together with its heavenly location, has been featured and recommended by both the BBC Countryfile magazine and Barbour.
There is just so much to do and see right on your doorstep. You can just relax and unwind by the Willsworthy Brook in the secluded cottage gardens or enjoy some lovely walks and picnics around the estate. You even have your very own stretch of the River Tavy to enjoy with single bank fishing rights. Alternatively, you can dip your feet or have a refreshing swim in one of the river's rock pools, heaven! However, if you seek a little more action, you can try your hand at clay pigeon shooting or have an amazing falconry experience, both of which take place within the grounds. For the adrenalin junkies of the group, mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking and tree surfing are all within easy reach of Lower Willsworthy.
The cottage is the sole holiday retreat on the estate, so you do not have to share the lovely gardens with any other guests. The owners however, do live within the grounds and are always on hand if need be, to make your holiday a memorable one.
Lower Willsworthy Cottage also welcomes your four-legged canine friends. To ensure that they also have a super time, dogs are accommodated in their very own luxury guest kennels which are situated adjacent to the cottage. These kennels feature a large indoor area and a large outdoor run. The cottage garden also provides a safe and secure environment for your dog(s) to play in. You can rest assure that your pet will have a great holiday as well, especially if they like the water! Although dogs are not permitted in the cottage at any time, given the standard of the kennels, we can't imagine them being too put out. By kennelling your dog, you are also then able to enjoy a dog-free day or night out in the knowledge that they are safe and sound.
With all this adventure, attraction and activity on your doorstep, every day offers a new experience which will leave you, your family and friends, with the most amazing holiday memories.
For any horse lovers in the group, there is a real treat in store. As well as being surrounded by wild Dartmoor ponies, Lower Willsworthy also boasts a stable yard within the grounds. For the younger guests, pony rides and lessons are extremely popular and can be arranged with the owner.
Dartmoor National Park is a true treasure. From the amazing views, fabulous walks and all the charm of the roaming ponies, a day out either trekking or biking is a must. To make matters even easier, you can bring your own bikes with you and store them safely in a secure storage facility next to the cottage.
If exploring Dartmoor on horseback sounds more appealing, horse and pony trekking is available throughout the week at the local trekking centre, just a five minute drive away. For the more adventurous rider there are also day long expeditions across Dartmoor, which take in locations from films such as War Horse and the Hound of the Baskervilles.
Not only are you surrounded by local attractions such as Lydford Gorge with its breathtaking 30m waterfall, Becky Falls and Castle Drogo, you are also within easy reach of some of the most stunning beaches that Devon and Cornwall have to offer.
Just a 15 minute drive away awaits the historic town of Tavistock, previously awarded Best Food and Market Town in the UK. With boutique shops, cafes, pubs, restaurants and its historical farmers market, offering fine food and great shopping, this friendly town makes for a great day out.
