Park up and walk down the narrow stepped path to the hidden delight that is Heron’s Rest. Tucked below the gardens of cottages above, the view over the patio wall is wonderful with the River Dart sparkling in the distance and the South Devon Steam Railway running along the valley (see photograph). Surrounded by the Greenway Estate, once owned by Agatha Christie (now run by the National Trust), you can walk down the lane and catch the foot ferry over to Dittisham or Dartmouth. Totally refurbished and almost all on one level, Heron’s Rest is gorgeous with large glazed doors into the living-room to take advantage of the view. Two steps lead to the spacious kitchen/breakfast area. Furnished and equipped with comfort in mind, there are two bedrooms, the larger one with floor to ceiling glazed doors. With under-floor heating in the living area and radiators elsewhere, this is the perfect stylish bolthole whatever the season.
