Pickwick Cottage (2233)
4 miles E of Okehampton | Accommodates 4 + cot* | Price Band G (£330 - £753)
DescriptionSouth Zeal is a picturesque medieval village in Dartmoor National Park. It has two traditional pubs and an excellent local shop/post office. 17th Century Pickwick Cottage has a sunny enclosed garden and the name derives from Charles Dickens’ ‘The Pickwick Papers’, which was written whilst he was staying here. A stone entrance passageway divides the house from the Owners next door, but you will be quite private. The wood-floored sitting-room has a wood-burner, a piano, and well-stocked bookshelves, and the kitchen/diner, with a warming Rayburn, has steps to a raised seating area opening to the garden. Upstairs (take care on the narrow staircase) are three bedrooms and a bathroom with a Japanese-style square bath and shower. South Zeal also hosts a folk festival for three days in August. Whatever the weather, Pickwick Cottage is a real home-from-home. *A cot is not provided, please bring your own travel cot.
