The Round Barn
1882 is no longer with usIf you were looking for cottages like The Round Barn, how about trying these:
The Round Barn is a real find! So-called because prior to 1965 this was a working farm and this particular barn, one of four and next door to the Owners, was used to grind corn – a donkey used to trot around part of the ground floor! Sympathetically and lovingly restored, parts of the original mechanism remain. Believed to date back in part to the 12th Century, the house even has a mention in the Domesday Book. Situated just under half a mile from the historical village of Crantock, with its thatched cottages and peaceful atmosphere, there are many interesting walks nearby. Large areas of the parish are owned by the National Trust, including the beach, car park and a delightful cove known as Polly Joke. The round orchard in the village centre may have been the site of an ancient Celtic chapel, and more recently it was used to round up stray livestock until claimed by the owners. The Gannel Estuary, formerly a thriving port, is now a favourite haunt of walkers, horse riders and naturalists as it has an abundance of wildlife. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Round Barn is quiet and private, ideal for groups of family or friends. Its beautiful interior and peaceful, secluded garden make it the perfect holiday destination. The accommodation is partially reversed, with four prettily furnished ground floor bedrooms, one having a six foot bed, French doors out to its own private enclosed patio and an en suite bathroom, whilst the other double and ‘zip and link’ bedrooms share an en suite bathroom (also accessed from the hall). Upstairs, the sitting-room, with original wood floors, oak beams and a warming wood-burner, and the adjoining games-room are perfect for relaxing after a day on the beach. The well-equipped kitchen/diner, which has a large farmhouse table, is wonderful for lazy breakfasts. A further bedroom with an en suite bathroom are also on the first floor, both overlooking the garden.
