Found down a tiny Devon lane and only ten minutes from some lovely beaches, Eastdown Cottage is the perfect rural retreat, whatever the time of year – so good in fact it was featured in ‘Country Living’ magazine. The slate-floored sitting-room has an off-white sofa and chairs arranged around the attractive inglenook fireplace, which houses a wood-burner. Next door is a second sitting-room decorated in a more contemporary style with a painted stone floor, white lime-washed walls, an open fire and the original steep stone staircase up to the first floor. There is also a conventional staircase leading to the three pretty bedrooms and bathroom. The kitchen/diner is just how you would imagine, with a scrubbed pine table, a range cooker and a butler’s sink where you can stand and look out at the terrace and garden – and what a garden. The sunny terrace has steps up to a natural wooded garden which has a play-house hidden in a huge laurel – kids will love it. So forget the hustle and bustle of city life and enjoy a relaxing week, or two, in this delightful cottage.
