Vixen Tor Cottage is a magical Dartmoor cottage. Found down a narrow mile long bumpy track (unsuitable for low suspension vehicles) and completely on its own, there is only a buzzard or occasional cow as a neighbour. From the minute you park on the grassy bank and walk through the beech tunnel to the front door, you will feel the peace and quiet surround you. Tucked in under Vixen Tor, there are marvellous views from the property, 50 acres of privately owned woodland and riverbank to explore, fly fishing on the Walkham (bring your own rods) and direct access to Dartmoor. Welcoming whatever the season, there are wood-burners in both the dining-room and sitting-room, and an oil-fired Rayburn in the kitchen. On a summer’s day the cottage and its wild natural garden (please supervise children around the stream and trampoline) can be wonderful. There are one or two low lintels, steps up and down and rather steep narrow stairs up to the bedrooms. So stock up – it’s a long way to the shop, and a mile walk to the nearest pub (further by car). The water is from a private supply (tested regularly). Please note that the changeover times are 6pm on arrival and 1pm on departure.
