Fowey is one of Cornwall’s most popular yachting destinations and home town of the celebrated author Daphne du Maurier. Evocatively picturesque and rich in history, Fowey’s narrow streets abound with appealing little shops, historic pubs, restaurants and cafes. A small car ferry crosses the harbour from the waterfront to Polruan on the opposite side (see bottom photograph, taken from nearby), and the beautiful south east coast beyond. Vougeot (second from right in top photograph) is only a short walk from the shops and harbour, part of a small modern development of terraced town houses which enjoy peaceful landscaped grounds and private parking. The light-filled, open plan living-room is extremely comfortable, with French windows opening onto a sheltered sunny patio overlooking the gardens beyond, and a very well-equipped kitchen-area. Upstairs the attractively decorated bedrooms are well-fitted with plenty of storage space, and share an attractive, recently updated bathroom. With the sandy beach at Readymoney Cove less than a mile away, and the coastal footpath meandering through the town and around Gribben Head, Vougeot is the perfect base from which to enjoy the delights of the area.
