One of Cornwall’s most popular yachting destinations and home town of the celebrated author Daphne du Maurier, Fowey is rich in history. Narrow streets with terraced cottages, antique shops, historic pubs, restaurants and cafes can all be explored. A small ferry crosses the river from the waterfront to Polruan on the opposite bank (see photograph – not the view from the cottage) and the beautiful south east coast beyond. Fowey Regatta Week and the Daphne du Maurier Festival of Arts and Literature are popular local events and well worth a visit. Vougeot is part of a small, prestigious development of terraced houses set in landscaped grounds (second from right in bottom photograph), only a short walk from the centre of town. The open plan living-room is luxuriously furnished, with French windows opening onto a sheltered patio overlooking the gardens beyond, and the beech fitted kitchen-area is exceptionally well-equipped. Upstairs, both attractively furnished bedrooms are decorated in soft colours and share a marble tiled bathroom.
