This charming cottage is tucked away down an unmade road just off Bembridge Harbour, within walking distance of Bembridge village centre. The front and rear gardens of Old Railway Cottage have been beautifully landscaped with a partially covered patio, outdoor seating and a barbecue at the rear. The open plan living-room with kitchen and dining area is spacious yet cosy; the owners have paid a lot of attention to detail with the decor, creating a wonderfully unique property. The three bedrooms are all on the first floor; the master, a twin and a bunk bedroom, plus a family bathroom. The stairs to the first floor only have a handrail to one side and are quite steep so younger guests are advised to take care. On the ground floor there is an additional shower-room; perfect to hop in, with sandy toes, straight from the beach. With the beach and a great family pub at the end of your road, what more could you want? There is parking for one car at the front of the property. It is worth noting that Station Road, where Old Railway Cottage is located, is unmade and quite bumpy so guests must drive slowly so the larger potholes can be avoided!
Bembridge village is situated on the eastern most point of the Island and is home to the Island’s last remaining windmill, a state-of-the-art lifeboat station and a bustling village community. Old Railway Cottage’s location is ideal, within a stone’s throw to the Pilot Boat Inn, newly redecorated and with a welcoming fire in winter. There are also two sunny terraces at the back, plus benches at the front with a lovely sea view. Not forgetting great food served everyday including a good choice of locally-caught seafood. The light aircraft from Bembridges’ very own airport can be admired from the front seating, as the aircraft take off and land nearby. A short walk from Old Railway Cottage takes you to the heart of Bembridge village, where there are several boutique shops, a bakery, fishmongers and restaurants. Amongst them is The Shed where the engaging host Toby welcomes you to enjoy a fine selection of tapas in a very relaxed environment. There is also outdoor seating for the sunny days - the Isle of Wight boasts the most sunny days in the UK! The farm shop a few doors away is a delight to stroll around, with the recent addition of a superb vegetarian cafe above. There are many beautiful beaches to choose from in Bembridge, some sandy some rocky, perfect for sunbathing and crabbing alike. As holiday destinations go, this one has everything you could possibly want and more.
