In the Blackdown Hills above Honiton, just 30 minutes from the Jurassic coastline and beaches at Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Branscombe, this detached cottage is an excellent holiday base, enjoying wonderful views as far as Dartmoor from its decked terrace and garden. The sitting/dining-room features exposed stone walls, a polished oak floor, two large comfortable armchairs, plus a leather sofa and glazed doors to the garden. The white fitted kitchen has a slate floor, and there is also a bathroom downstairs.

Up the turning staircase are the bedrooms, separated by a modern shower-room, that both have lovely views. Popplestone – Devon dialect for 'pebble' – is set down a private drive where the only neighbours are the nearby owners, their horses, two dogs and small herd of Dexter cows.

From Popplestone, it is an easy drive down into the beautiful Otter Valley and on to the Cathedral City of Exeter. Then the market towns of Honiton, famous for its antiques shops, Axminster, where you will find Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s River Cottage Canteen, and Ilminster, with its Thursday farmer's market, just over the Somerset border.

There are also plenty of walks right from your doorstep – there is a lovely bridleway down through the woodland just in front of the cottage, all part of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Beauty. Livery is available if guests wish to bring their own horse, and dogs are welcome. The cottage has a small, enclosed fenced garden for pets, but guests can also make use of a further open garden close by.
