Brixham is perched above Torbay, and Berry Head National Nature Reserve, with lovely rural and clifftop walks, is on the edge of the town. You will also find Berry Head Cottage here, one of two late 19th Century cottages built as mirror images. The gardens (accessed by stone steps) are lovely – a haven for wild birds – with lawns, a little pond, two patios (one with glimpses of the sea) and more stone steps going up to hidden terraces high above the cottage. The accommodation includes a cosy sitting-room and separate dining-room and, ideal for the elderly, a ground floor en suite bedroom. Just over a mile from the bustle of the busy harbour, Berry Head Cottage is a real gem.
Berry Head Cottage places guests only a five minute walk from The Berry Head Hotel with its well-known restaurant and stunning sea views, and just around the corner from the sea and the free open-air salt-water Shoalstone swimming pool. The walks on to the coastal path are literally on the doorstep and are tremendous whatever the weather. The whole of Torbay is very busy with numerous fishing boats and yachts of every size coming and going over the water. Brixham itself has numerous shops and restaurants and Dartmouth is just around the Ness Headland – well worth a visit.
