The South Hams area is one of the most picturesque parts of south Devon, with sheltered sandy coves and beaches, tree-lined estuaries and rolling countryside. Dartmouth is particularly well-known, not just for its naval tradition but also for the wonderful sailing and river trips to be had on the Dart estuary. Set above this attractive town, Great Cotton Farm is a working farm found down a quiet country lane. The Owners have converted a terrace of old barns, bordering the original farmyard, to a very high standard, using as much of the original timber and stone as possible. Each cottage has a patio at the rear, approached through French doors, leading to a large, communal grassed area suitable for games, including putting and badminton. Guests are also able to use the wireless broadband access offered at each property. The area has plenty to offer: sailing, fishing and crabbing. The Woodlands Leisure Park and also Dartmouth Golf and Country Club (where guests enjoy a 25% discount) are within ten minutes’ drive. Blackpool Sands (see photograph) with its summer watersports centre is only two miles away and Dartmouth’s sports hall is within walking distance.

Crows Nest is set on the end as you come down the lane. The original curved wall has been incorporated into the open plan living area. With its exposed beams as well as a welcoming ‘living-flame’ gas stove, this is a very attractive property. The patio is accessed from the first floor. Pine stairs lead up to the wood-floored landing which gives a minstrels’ gallery effect below and which also has another sleeping gallery above.
