A secluded single-storey cottage, Maryland is approached by a lane passing the owners’ house and stands alone in a mature, gently sloping woodland garden where the shrubs and trees merge seamlessly with the surrounding countryside. The coastal path meanders along the cliffs and bays making this area ideal for walkers.
The hamlet of Porthallow has a thriving hotel offering both brasserie and fine dining menus, and two beach cafes providing traditional seaside fare and evening barbecues operate during the summer season.
Maryland offers a wonderful base from which to explore both near and far with the peaceful seclusion of its location ensuring restful relaxation when staying in.
From the parking-area (up a short steep drive) a level path and two shallow steps lead to an open porch. Inside, the sitting-room has a wood-burner, perfect for out-of-season breaks, and patio doors to the garden. In the spacious kitchen/dining-room the table is by the window, offering captivating scenes of the ever-changing sky and sea. The double bedroom has its own en suite shower-room and the twin bedroom has use of the family bathroom which has a three quarter-size bath.
Porthallow was mentioned in BBC's Countryfile Magazine as one of the hidden treasures of Cornwall, a locally known secret for years! There are several renowned Cornish gardens nearby and art lovers will enjoy the Looe Music Festival, the Fowey Festival of Words and Music and Port Elliot Literary Festival.
The owners, who raise sheep on their 450 acre farm, offer one Bed and Breakfast room in their nearby farmhouse.
